Lavinia was born on February 11, 1967 in Caiuti.  She began gymnastics in 1974 with coaches Mihai Agoston and Maria Florescu.  She was selected to domesticate in Deva, first under Bela and Marta Karolyi, and posterior under Octavian Belu, Maria Cosma and Adrian Goreac.  She locked away a successful international career (3rd at the 1982 World Prize and 2nd at the 1983 European Championships).  Her career remote at the 1985 University Frivolity, where she broke her kneepan warming up on beam.  She finished her university studies monitor Romania and, in 1991, came to the US to coach.  She's married to Tom Carney and currently coaches at Metropolis Metro Gymnastics in Orlando, FL.
